Art Students at Curie High School created art as postcards.
The theme: "Healing, Peace, & Comfort"
Ms. Valerie Xanos' Advanced Art class of 2012 chose this theme because they felt that everyone experiences hardships in their life at some time or another. They studied and researched how artists have used creativity to express a way to find healing from the wounds of life.
They were inspired to create art that expressed how they used their imagination to overcome obstacles and find strength, healing, and finally peace.
These postcard artworks will be sent to a school called, Jacqueline Vaughn Occupational High School.
Their teacher, Laura R. Smith will give them to her students. Each student gets to keep his or her received artwork. They also receive a kit of art materials to create their own postcard art to send back to the student artist at Curie High School.
In this exchange, we hope to use creativity and self-expression to make a connection and create a visual dialog between art students. Moreover, this blog is meant to encourage that connection and foster comments and further dialog not only between the art students, but from other viewers as well.
This project was funded by a grant from the Oppenheimer Foundation.
